Wonderland Editor Now Available on Flathub

We are thrilled to announce that Wonderland Editor is now available as a Flatpak package on Flathub. This simplifies access for Linux users across various distributions, making it easier than ever to get started with Wonderland Engine and build highly performant web-based 3D and XR apps.

Why Flatpak? 

Linux is a wonderfully diverse ecosystem, but that diversity brings challenges when distributing software. Different package managers, dependencies, and configurations make it hard to provide universal support for all distributions. Flatpak emerged as a compelling solution due to its cross-distro compatibility, allowing a single Flatpak package to work seamlessly across a variety of distributions, from Fedora to Arch. By enabling cross-distro compatibility, Flatpak lets us focus on delivering the best experience to all Linux users without maintaining separate packages for individual distributions.

From Debian Packages to Flatpak 

Previously, Wonderland Editor was distributed as a Debian package, tailored for Ubuntu-based systems. While this worked for many, Linux users on other distributions often went the extra mile to make things work. Arch Linux users, for example, created their own scripts to adapt our Debian package for their systems. It was both inspiring and humbling to see such dedication from the Linux community.

With the Flatpak release, this extra work is no longer necessary. Linux users that have Flatpak on their system can now install Wonderland Editor with a single command:

1flatpak install flathub com.wonderlandengine.editor

And to launch:

1flatpak run com.wonderlandengine.editor

A Small but Dedicated Userbase 

While Linux users currently represent a smaller portion of our userbase, this can be a deceptive metric. Historically, smaller userbases on platforms like macOS signaled areas for improvement—and we’ve since made macOS support a priority. Similarly, we aim to better serve our Linux users, building on the strong foundation we’ve already laid.
